What Is a Yipi! Tastemaker?

Someone whose taste helps other people make better discoveries.

A Yipi! Tastemaker is someone people trust to help them find good things.

They know their subject. They have a point of view. And when they find something worth recommending, they can tell you not just what they picked, but why.

Tastemakers aren’t chosen because of how many followers they have. They’re recognized for what they know, the quality of their recommendations, and their ability to help other people make better discoveries.

You may already be one.

Are you the person people ask:

  • Where did you find that?
  • Which one should I get?
  • Where should we go?
  • What would you recommend?

You don’t need a huge following to have influence.

Sometimes expertise comes from professional experience. Sometimes it comes from years of curiosity, trying things, comparing them, and knowing what’s worth recommending.

If people trust your taste, you may already be a Tastemaker.

How Tastemaking Works

1

Find what’s worth recommending

Discover products, places, and experiences you genuinely believe are worth knowing about.

They might be things you’ve loved for years or something new you’ve recently discovered.

What matters is that you would recommend them whether or not anyone was paying attention.

2

Make a Pick

When something earns your recommendation, make it a Pick.

A Pick is a Tastemaker’s recommendation, something you personally choose to stand behind.

Businesses can’t buy a Pick, and receiving a product doesn’t obligate you to recommend it.

The choice is yours.

3

Tell people why

A recommendation is more useful when people understand the thinking behind it.

Tell your Circle why you chose something, who you think it’s right for, what makes it different, or what you learned from actually using it.

Your Pick. Your reason. Your words.

4

Curate your Yipi!-Lists

Bring your Picks together into Yipi!-Lists that help people discover around a particular interest, need, or point of view.

A list might be your favorite independent restaurants, the running gear you actually use, gifts you’d genuinely give, or the places you send every friend who visits your city.

Instead of searching through everything, people can discover through someone whose taste they trust.

5

Help your Circles discover

Your Picks become part of a larger conversation.

People can discover them through Circles, explore your Yipi!-Lists, learn why you chose something, and decide for themselves whether it’s right for them.

The more useful your recommendations are, the more people can come to know and trust your point of view.

That’s influence on Yipi!: helping someone discover something worth knowing.

6

Earn when your Picks create value

When one of your Picks leads to a purchase through Yipi!, you can earn a share of the sale your recommendation helped create.

But the order matters.

You recommend what you genuinely believe in. If your Pick leads to a sale, you share in the value you helped create.

A business can’t pay to become your Pick or buy its way onto your Yipi!-List.

You choose what you stand behind. And when someone discovers something through your recommendation and decides to buy it, you can earn a share of that sale.

A Different Kind of Influence

Being a Yipi! Tastemaker isn’t about having the biggest audience.

It’s about sharing what you know with the people who value your point of view.

Your influence comes from your knowledge, taste, curiosity, and the trust you build by recommending things you genuinely stand behind.

That means:

  • Knowledge and taste matter more than follower count.
  • Businesses can’t buy your Pick.
  • You decide what deserves your recommendation.
  • You explain why you chose it.
  • When your recommendation leads to a sale, you can earn a share of the value you helped create.

Because on Yipi!, influence isn’t simply about being seen.

It’s about helping someone make a better discovery.

Try Things. Never Be Obligated to Recommend Them.

Tastemakers may have opportunities to discover and try products from businesses on Yipi!.

Trying something does not mean recommending it.

If it earns your Pick, you can tell people why.

If it doesn’t, you don’t have to Pick it.

That independence is important because your recommendation only has value when people know it is genuinely yours.

How Tastemakers Earn

When your independent Pick helps someone discover something and that discovery leads to a purchase through Yipi!, you may earn a share of the transaction.

That creates a different relationship between discovery and commerce.

A business doesn’t pay to influence your recommendation.

Instead, you create value by helping someone make a discovery. And you can share in that value when discovery becomes a purchase.

How Do I Become a Tastemaker?

Start by participating in the things you genuinely know and care about.

Join Circles around your interests, give Yips to things you stand behind, create Yipi!-Lists, share your experiences, and share recommendations that other people find useful.

Over time, your activity begins to show to the community your expertise and taste.

Yipi! looks for members whose recommendations consistently help people discover good things. People with knowledge, curiosity, a distinctive taste, or experience others can learn from.

That can come from your profession, a lifelong interest, personal taste, years spent trying and comparing things, or simply being the person others repeatedly turn to for recommendations.

As your contributions stand out, you may be invited to become a Yipi! Tastemaker, giving you the ability to make Picks, curate recommendations for your Circles, and earn when your Picks help create a purchase.

The best place to start?

Share what you genuinely know and recommend what you genuinely believe in.

Someone else is looking for it.

Share the love.
